Greg Wilson, Artist, Watercolours.

Greg Wilson

I paint in watercolour, oils and pastels. I have my studio in Iluka and having recently retired from full time work as an architectural designer, am now able to spend more time painting.

Being an exhibiting member of the Iluka Emporium has been and is a very positive experience. It comes with friendships with other artists and connections within the broader Clarence Valley community.

My Story

I spent my childhood in rural Queensland where at the age of 12, I joined an adult painting class. I have been painting and drawing ever since.

I mostly paint boats and harbours in watercolour, beachscapes and landscapes in oils and portraits in oils or pastels. My preferred medium is watercolour and where possible these are painted on location. Because of the immediacy of being in the location coupled with the obvious time constraint, this is an effective method of achieving a loose and vibrant painting. It also gets one into the habit of working in the studio with a similar feel.

Watercolour influences include John Singer Sargent, JJ Hilder, Blamire Young, Penleigh Boyd, Joseph Zbukvic, Lai Young Lin, Chien Chung-Wei and Alvaro Castagnet.

I have a Diploma of Fine Arts from Lismore TAFE 2003 and a Bachelor of Applied Science, Architecture and Industrial Design, from the Queensland Institute of Technology 1983.
