Carolyn Scorey, Artist, Photographer.

Carolyn Scorey

My interest areas are Functional Art, Visual Art & Local Photography. My main focus is creating functional art, working with acrylic paint, Posca pens and alcohol inks. Creating unique and organic images on wooden coasters, ceramic tiles and salt’n’pepper shakers.

I’m influenced by the surroundings when it comes to colours and textures in the design process. Inspired by rock pools, headlands and the ocean. The local bushland and the littoral rainforest of the Bundjalung National Park. Then, there are pops of colour for a retro vibe, or classic black and white… So many combinations!

My interest in photography focuses on the natural environment. I enjoy capturing the unusual and quirky images that appear in day-to-day life. If a customer is discussing a photograph that is a little different, I know that I have captured their attention, even for a few extra moments.

My Story

I had been in the workforce since I left school in 1973. Undertaking administration roles in the motor industry, education department, and then in Planning & Environment with Local Government (Qld) for sixteen years, until early retirement in December 2012.

In the 80’s, I raised a family, took Adult Education classes and dabbled in art. I had lessons with Eric Whisson, a well-known Queensland artist. I entered and won a couple of awards at the local Caboolture show. That was a long time ago… so much has happened since then!

We moved to Iluka late 2012. I joined the Iluka Emporium in 2019 with a group of six ladies from the local U3A art group. Over the next two years the group declined. In 2021 I decided to continue my journey as… Artspaceby_CMS. I started with a limited collection of coasters, fluid acrylic paintings and photography. I shared the back community room with five other exhibiting members.

In early 2023 I moved to the centre gallery room, where I currently have my work on display along with some very talented artists and creators.I love making functional art with a purpose, and photographing the unusual.

Please enjoy!
